Australian Gold
Australia won only one gold medal in the area of Swimming. This was for the 4x100m women's relay. This was the first gold medal for Australia. The women in Australia's relay team were; Alicia Coutts, Cate Campbell, Brittany Elmslie and Melanie Schlange.
More Golds for Phelps
Micheal Phelps from America won four gold medals at the English Olympic Games. He won these in the events; in the 4-by-200-meter freestyle relay, 200-meter individual medley, 100-meter butterfly and 4-by-100-meter medley relay. As well as this he also won 2 silver medals at London in 4-by-100-meter freestyle relay and 200-meter butterfly. These six Olympic medals were added to his collection of 16 to create a grand total of 22 which is the most Olympic medals ever presented to an athlete. Out of these 22 medals, 18 are gold.
So Which Country Came Up On Top?
The country which received the most medals in Swimming was the United Sates of America. They received a total of 31 Olympic medals (16 of which were gold, 9 which were silver and 6 which were bronze). China came second with a total of 10 medals in swimming and France came third with 7 medals. Australia came seventh with 10 medals, only one of which was gold.
